Book group 1 25/26


Group Description :
We meet once a month, mainly the last Monday unless a Bank Holiday dictates an earlier Monday. Please see the meeting dates. We discuss a book chosen by group members and members also recommend other books that they have read recently - often lending books to each other. The meetings are very informal, and although we like an occasional challenge there is no intellectual pressure. We've recently read books by  Rajasree Variyar, William Boyd, Graeme Macrae Burnet and Nevil Shute and forthcoming authors include Helen Dunmore, Anthony Doerr, Robert Harris, Georgy Gospodinov, Mick Herron, Lucy Steeds, George Orwell and Kristin Hannah. We like to choose from a wide variety of genres. Existing members are re-enrolled unless they request otherwise. There may be places free for new joiners.

Physical Access

a) The entrance has 3x 15cm(6inches) deep steps up to it.

There are handrails on both sides.

There are no contrast strips at the step edge. 

b) There is a 6m(20ft) long ramp with handrails on both side and a flat space at the top. 

c) The entrance door is not automatic opening.

There is an alternative accessible entrance, the door is not automatic opening.

The internal doors are easy to open. 


Toilet Facilities

a) There are accessible toilets identified.

b) There is sufficient space adjacent to the toilet for a wheelchair user to slide across. 

c) There are grab rails.

d) The washbasins etc. are at a suitable height. 

e) There is an alarm cord that reaches the floor.

a) There is no public transport within 50m (164ft). 

b) The venue has car parking or there is parking within 50m (164ft).

There are ten disabled spaces, approx. up to 20m(66ft) to the entrance.

There is sufficient room in a disabled parking space to open a door widely for a wheelchair.

a) The room has no two hearing loops installed.

There are no instructions for their use.
